Fuel-pump inventor files patent suit

A former employee of Denso Corp. is suing the company for 1 billion yen for his role in developing an automobile fuel pump in the 1980s, his lawyers said Saturday.

Denso, an auto parts manufacturer belonging to the Toyota Motor Corp. group, earned at least 19.9 billion yen in profits by 2000 from the patents the company owns for the motorized pump, the former employee claims.

In the suit filed with the Tokyo District Court, the plaintiff says he developed the pump with five colleagues, and that the six developers contributed to 20 percent of the entire development work.

He says his input accounted for two-thirds of the contribution by the six, making him eligible for 2.6 billion yen.
