BANGKOK – The bodies of two slain Japanese journalists were cremated at a temple here Monday evening in a ceremony attended by their family members and close friends.
The ashes of Shinsuke Hashida and his nephew, Kotaro Ogawa, who were killed in an ambush in Iraq late last month, will be returned to Japan, sources close to their family said. Hashida was 61 and Ogawa 33.
Their family members, including Hashida’s wife, Yukiko, 50, and Ogawa’s mother, Yoko, 57, are scheduled to arrive in Tokyo early Wednesday morning with the ashes, they said.
The two freelancers lived in a condominium in Bangkok before leaving for Iraq.
