SENDAI – Two people were killed and four others were injured in a five-vehicle pileup near the Shiroishi Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway in Miyagi Prefecture, the prefectural highway police said Saturday.
A truck crashed into a station wagon from behind shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, killing two men and seriously injuring three others in the station wagon, police said.
The two men who were killed were identified as Tomokazu Togashi, 27, and Tatsuya Suguru, 34, both company employees from Sendai.
The truck driver, Katsura Kamiakedo, 28, of Nango, Aomori Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in injuries, the police said.
The accident involved another truck, a passenger car and a minivehicle in front of the station wagon. A woman in the minivehicle sustained light injuries.
