Thai-made Honda to be imported

Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday it will import a remodeled compact car produced in Thailand and release it on the domestic market in December.

It will be the first time for Honda to import a car made in Asia.

The car was introduced exclusively on the Asian market in 1996. Its local name is the City.

It will feature the 1,500cc low-emission engine installed in the Mobilio minivan, the officials said.

Other details, such as the price and the name under which it will be released on the Japanese market, will be decided later, they said.

Industry officials said the car will likely be priced at a little more than 1 million yen.

Honda sells around 37,000 City vehicles annually in six Asian countries, including Thailand.
